BOARDMAN – Richard E. Bodnar, 88, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. He was born April 5, 1930 in Youngstown, the son of Joseph and Ann Gristhus Bodnar. Richard was a 1948 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and served in the Navy Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as a welder and a pipe fitter for 34 years at McKay Machines/Wean United, where he met his wife, Joanne Koken (Greenfield). He and Joanne were married on June 20, 1964. Following his retirement in 1991, Richard and Joanne traveled extensively, visiting all but three of the United States, as well as several destinations in Europe. In addition to traveling, Richard enjoyed golf and was a lifelong Browns and Indians fan. Richard leaves to cherish his memory sons Thomas (Phyllis) Bodnar, Richard (Ann) Bodnar and Kenneth (Patty) Bodnar; sister, Sally Bodnar; stepson Michael Greenfield (Nancy Grimm); grandchildren Michael Bodnar, Matthew Bodnar, Amanda Bodnar, Thomas Bodnar, John Mattingly, Rennie Greenfield, Bethany Garr and Lisa Earl; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carole Wardle. There will be no calling hours or services. Arrangements are being handled by Davis-Becker Funeral Homes. The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Grace Hospice, whose loving care toward Richard and Joanne has been invaluable.
