1st Sgt. Bernard “BC” Condlin, (Retired), 88, died from complications due to Parkinson and congested heart failure on June 23, 2018. Born in Ogdensburg, N.Y. on May 25, 1930 to Irene and Bernard Condlin, he is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lois McCarthy Condlin; his daughters, Lynn Johnson (Anthony), Sudan Condlin (Reggie Carde) and Sandra Miller (Skip); one sister, Mary Robinson; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. BC was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Frances Condlin; and a grandson who died in infancy, Brandon Mauritzson. Joining the armed forces in 1947, Sgt. Condlin was stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC and gyroscoped with his family to Mainz, Germany in 1958 for three years. As a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, Sgt. Condlin served his country for 21 years. During his tenure he served in the artillery, infantry and was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. After retiring from the Army, Sgt. Condlin and a partner owned Tallywood Texaco for several years. He then joined Holt Oil Company where he retired after 20 years. Well known by family, friends, businesses and associates as, “BC”, those that knew him will fondly remember his numerous practical jokes, his mischievous smile and his simple, yet memorable schemes. An avid sports fan, BC looked forward to football and supporting the Washington Redskins. He took delight in hosting yearly Super Bowl parties and other events at “the little house” for many years. Come spring he turned his enthusiasm to supporting the New York Yankees. BC enjoyed local politics and worked tirelessly to elect his candidates to office. A man who could build anything, fix anything, BC kept busy in retirement working in his shop. As a remembrance growing up in a rural farm community, BC restored a 1945 Farmall tractor and enjoyed riding it around the yard. he family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm Friday, June 29, 2018 at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11 am Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Cumberland Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Harvey Knowles, a long-time military buddy will perform TAPS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Airborne and Special Operations Museum 100 Bragg Blvd. Fayetteville, NC 28301.
