Patrick Lear Paulsen April 20 1979 March 30 2018

Obituary for Patrick Lear Paulsen In Loving Memory Patrick Lear Paulsen 1979-2018 Beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, mentor, and coach, Patrick Lear Paulsen, of Lindon, Utah, 38, passed from this life while sleeping in his home into the loving arms of his Savior on Friday, March 30, 2018. Patrick was born on April 20, 1979, to David Lamont and Audrey Lucille Paulsen in Provo, Utah. Since his birth, Patrick’s loving heart, dynamic personality, and undeniable charm captured the attention of all who knew him. He was fearless and indomitable and brought life and laughter with him wherever he went. He was a fiercely loyal friend whose heart had a seemingly endless capacity to expand to hold space for the many people he met and who loved him. Patrick started walking before he was 9 months old and never stopped moving from then on, usually with a ball or fishing pole under one arm. From a young age he fell in love with athletics. If a game tested strength, agility, speed or coordination, he excelled at it. As he matured, basketball and football become his two passions. Upon graduating from Pleasant Grove High School, Patrick played collegiate football for Snow College and the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he received his Bachelors degree in Behavioral Science. He also played two seasons of professional football before sustaining a career ending knee injury. He loved competition and challenging himself. He loved working with a team. When injuries prevented him from playing himself, he used his knowledge of sport and people to help countless others who called him “coach.” His motto was “whatever it takes to be a champion today.” While in high school Patrick met his “honey,” Maren Jeanne Memmott, and, at the age of 20, they were married for time and all eternity in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. They later welcomed three sons into their family, Jens, Bryce and Chase. Patrick’s boys were the light and joy of his life. Nothing made him happier and prouder than his three sons. He was actively involved in supporting and coaching his sons in their sporting events, and they loved to hike, fish, read, play and laugh together. Maren was and is the great love of his life, and his heart’s most sacred desire was to take care of her, make her proud, and be worthy of her love. She was his rock and his guiding star. They have been best friends for 22 years. He loved to share feelings through music. To borrow the words from one of Collin Raye songs he sang to her many times, “between now and then, until I see you again, I’ll be loving you. Love, me” Patrick was a born entrepreneur. He started his first business in middle school, selling candy and fireworks at recess, and was always making deals and thinking of ways that organizations could improve. After his football career ended, Patrick took his leadership, communication, and organizational skills to a career in management. He ran companies, set them up and turned them around, when needed. He had a keen business mind, but above all, he was a coach and a mentor. His deepest fulfillment came from helping others be successful, and he loved encouraging and assisting others in finding their own potential. He had a famous quick wit and was a consummate storyteller with the ability to make almost immediate connections with others. In recent months, his mind was filled with ideas for a new leadership training program based around positive thinking. He was a wonderful home teacher, neighbor and friend, to whom many turned to in times of trouble and need. He was the first to show up and the last to leave. He didn’t see limitations or obstacles, he saw needs and people first and found ways to make the impossible, possible, on a regular basis. He was a defender of the underdog and a protector of the vulnerable. He loved doing missionary work and service, especially with his boys. He believed in the power of prayer, priesthood blessings, and the promises of the temple. His family adored him and always wanted to be with him because of his positive energy and charisma and the way he made people feel. “Uncle Pat” was up for anything, was the life of the party and the kids relied on for fun and for unconditional love and support. His mother, father, and brothers and sisters looked to him for wisdom and strength. Extended family called him a gentle giant. His beautiful soul drew all who knew him to him. They felt his enormous capacity to love, and he will be terribly missed. Patrick is survived by his beautiful wife, Maren Jeanne Paulsen, and his three amazing sons Jens Lear Paulsen (15), Bryce Lear Paulsen (13), and Chase Lear Paulsen (9) all of Lindon, UT. He is also survived by his parents, David and Audrey Paulsen, his 5 siblings, David E. Paulsen, Trinyan (Tom) Mariano, Kjrsten (Jason) Oler, Ntanya (William) Morell, and Leif Paulsen, He will also be loved and missed by his mother-in-law, Rae Jeanne Memmott, his in laws Megan (Shane) Peart, Mandy (Randy) Carey, and Mason Memmott as well as his 17 nieces and nephews who all adored him.
