Columbus Grove, Ohio Opal M. May, 102, died at 11:00 pm, Monday, June 25, 2018, at her daughter’s home in Norton, Ohio. She was born June 27, 1915, in Defiance, Ohio to Earl and Elva (Shock) Mahan. They both preceded her in death. On December 24, 1933, she married Harold May, who preceded her in death, May 8, 1991. Opal is survived by one son Roger May of Albion, NY; two daughters, Betty Best of Hilton Head Island, S.C. and Carolyn (Donald) Binkley of Norton, OH; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 23 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Vernon Mahan and three sisters, Ethel May, Loretta Mahan and Jennie Gicolchea, two grandchild and two great great grandchildren. Opal was a member of the Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren, Lima and the Women’s Fellowship of the Church. She really enjoyed spending time with family, especially around the little ones. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting and working outside. Opal had been active with the Barberton Senior Citizen Center, with their Bible reading class and activities. She attended the Barberton First Presbyterian Church, worked in the soup kitchen, the church rummage sale, and other church activities. Opal had stuffed dolls for the Giving Dolls Program. Services will begin at 11:00 am on Monday, July 2, 2018, at Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren, Lima. Pastor Michael Huffaker and Pastor Timothy Binkley will co-officate with burial to follow at the Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren.
