Obituary for Merle Williams Merle Williams, age 73, of Lafayette, passed away at 3:30 a.m. on June 23, 2018 at his residence. Born on September 8, 1944 in Monon, IN, he was the son of the late Darl D. Williams and Bonnie (Hunt) Williams. He attended Granville High School. He honorably served overseas in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He married Barbara Parish on May 7, 1967 and she survives. Merle retired after 32 years from Globe Valve Corp. Surviving with his wife are his children: Michael Williams (wife: Tracey) of Burlington, Mitchell Williams (wife: Robyn) of Lafayette, Molly Puryear (husb: Jim) of Benson, NC and Mindy Biery (husb: Bradley) of Lafayette, IN, siblings: Lucille Dyke (husb: Wayne), Jackie Williams and Mary Robinson (husb: Gene), all of Grand Rapids, MI, seven grandchildren and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Raymond Williams, Mable Kogler, Stanley Williams, Ruby Williams, and Donnie Williams. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2018 at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at the funeral home. Pastor Terry Chase will officiate with interment at Rockfield Cemetery in Rockfield, IN with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
