Obituary of Marvin “Marv” McWherter Commander Marvin E. McWherter, SC, US Navy (Retired), age 71 of Mebane passed away on Sunday June 17, 2018 after a very courageous battle with Mantle Cell Lymphoma at Duke University Hospital in Durham. He was a 21 year U.S. Navy veteran followed by several years of sales and service in the car industry, prior to full retirement in 2009. Marv loved his country and family with a passion. His favorite activities were country drives, boat rides, traveling and fast cars. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ferne S. McWherter. Marv is survived by his wife of almost 44 years, Joyce D. McWherter of the home, daughter, Jenifer M. Farrell and husband Vince of Durham, grandson Bradley Farrell;father Robert (Bob) H. McWherter of Burlington;sister Cheryl Edwards and husband Tom of Gibsonville and many other cherished family members. There will be a Memorial Service held for Marv on Saturday June 23, 2018 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Walker’s Funeral Home of Mebane, located at 304 W. Center Street, Mebane with Rev. MJ Tucci officiating. A reception with light refreshments will follow the service in the community room of the funeral home. He will be interred at the Salisbury National Cemetery located at 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury NC 28144 on Tuesday June 26, 2018 at 1:00 pm with full military honors. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research at www.stjudes.org Online guest registry is available at www.walkersfuneralservice.com Walker’s Funeral Home of Mebane is in charge of the arrangements.
