Obituary of M. Whayland M. Mark “Mickey” Whayland, 90, of Salisbury, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at his home. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Mark Wilson Whayland and Emma Hastings Austin. The family would like to especially thank Coastal Hospice staff and caregivers (Valerie McKenzie & Odette Torchon) for the wonderful care and support given to “Mickey” “Mickey” was a US Army World War II veteran who served in the Philippines. He was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge BPOE #817, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the Lions Club. He retired as a Regional Manager from Delmarva Power in 1988 after 40 years. He enjoyed working in his yard. “Mickey” was an avid golfer, BUT, never got a hole-in-one; even so his love of golf prompted he and his wife to move to Pinehurst, NC for several years. Mark is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Faye Whayland; his daughter, Ellen W. Dietz & her husband, Frank DeLizza of Salisbury; a son, Steven Brewer & his wife, Tamara of Delmar, MD; two grandsons, Michael DeLizza & his wife, Theresa of Mardela Springs and Dr. Joshua Brewer & his wife, Sarah of Delmar, MD; four great grandchildren, Adam, Luke, Isaac, and Benjamin; and several nieces, nephews, cousins & extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Whayland Lowe. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at 2:00 pm at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow at Parsons Cemetery with Rev. Lou Bradley officiating. Contributions may be made in his memory to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
