Obituary of Kerry Whitson Durham – Mr. Kerry Lynn Whitson, 63, died Tuesday morning at Duke University Medical Center. Mr. Whitson was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Roy Whitson, Jr., and Alice Spinks Whitson. He graduated from Pomona (CA) High School in 1972. He relocated to North Carolina in 1986. Kerry received his Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice from Gardner-Webb University. He was employed with the State of North Carolina as a Parole Officer, retiring after 15+ years of dedicated service. Mr. Whitson was an avid mechanic, and was a proud owner of a Studebaker, even being a member of a Studebaker Car Club. Kerry loved the beach and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter. Kerry is survived by his daughter, Caitlyn Whitson, of Carrboro; granddaughter, Eliana Sophia Hernandez, of Carrboro; and his ex-wife, Toni Whitson Kempf. Services will be private. The Whitson family is under the care of Walker’s Funeral Home, Chapel Hill.
