Obituary for Howard Gilbert Fincher Sr. HOWARD GILBERT FINCHER SR. Howard Gilbert Fincher Sr. 73, of Independence, MO, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at North Kansas City, Hospital. He was born October 30, 1944 to Woodrow and Pauline Fincher; they preceded him in death, as well as his wife, Cynthia Fincher; brothers, Joe Fincher, Bill Fincher, Woodrow Fincher, James Stacy; sister Doris Crawford; and granddaughter, Alma Smith. Survivors include his son Howard Fincher Jr.; daughter, Sherry Smith (Jarrid); grandchildren, Melissa Clements, (Casey), Melanie Miller (James), Chris Fincher, Elvin Boone, Tori Smith, Jarrid Smith II, Katie Smith, Stephen Smith; great grandchildren, Kevin Fincher, Kayelee Clements, Clayton Clements, Bree Miller, Max Miller, Luke Fincher, Ava Fincher and several nieces and nephews. Childhood memories include spending time with family and friends at Riverfront Park in Kansas City. During his youth Howard attended Kansas City Public Schools. Mr. Fincher was a truck driver, business owner, and recently retired as supervisor for the State Department. Howard was an avid bowler, gambler and loved to travel the United States. He also enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and listening to Chuck Berry’s music. Howard had a special love for Christ and often spoke to his children and grandchildren about the word. His family was special to him and his final days were spent surrounded by then. Howard was quite a character and family man! Suggested memorial contributions are to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriner’s Hospitals for Children and Wayside Waifs. The family would like to thank the staff of North Kansas City Hospital for the exceptional care given to Howard during his stay, especially nurses Erin, Kristin and Jessica.
