Missoula – Helen L. Jefferies passed away on Saturday June 23, 2018 at her home at Grizzly Peak in Missoula. She was born Helen Lillian Krout on June 29, 1928. She was the third child out of 7 born to Rodney O. Krout and Edith L. (Osborne) Krout of Corvallis. The family lived in Corvallis until 1943 when they moved to Stevensville where Helen graduated in 1946. Helen married Frank G. Weitzel on November 25, 1950 where they resided in Stevensville. They had four children, one boy and 3 girls. She was a member of The First Baptist Church and a member of the PTA. She loved to garden, and was an excellent seamstress. She shared that knowledge by being a leader in a local 4-H Club. In1969 she started working in the banking industry as a Loan Officer and then a Credit Manger until retiring in September 1991 from Missoula Government Employees Credit Union (now Horizon Cr Union). Helen was Commander of the DAV Auxiliary. And was Treasurer of the NARFE from 1995 until disbanded in 2014. Her husband Frank passed away in April 1978. In March of 1982 she married William M. Jefferies. They spent time in Seeley Lake and in 1984 moved to Missoula. She enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and a love of genealogy. On one of her trips to Hershey, PA she located her grandfather’s grave and an extension of her father’s family, long thought to be lost. The love for her family and history was instrumental in planning numerous Krout Family Reunions held between 1980 and continues on. She acted as Treasurer in charge of the funds to host these events. Helen was preceded in death by her mother, father, stepmother, stepfather, three brothers and 2 husbands. Helen is survived by her children Barb (Sam) Knowles of Spokane, WA, Martyn (Jake) of Stevensville, Pam (Brad) McLean of Florence, Cheryl (Miles) Hackman of Ronan, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother Jack(Verna) Krout of Petaluma, CA, brother Robert (Lloyda) of Florence, sister Linda Conley of Helena, and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will held on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 1:30 P.M. at Whitesitt Funeral Home, in Stevensville. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery. The family suggests that any memorial donations be made in Helen’s name to the Consumer Direct Hospice of Missoula or Missoula Elder Care of Missoula.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Helen L Krout Jefferies 2018. Whitesitt Funeral Home
