Obituary for Harry J. Smith Harry J. Smith, age 65, of Gloversville, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the Mountain Valley Hospice House, Gloversville, following a long illness with his loving family by his side. He was born on September 18, 1952, a son of the late Howard and Elizabeth (Alkinburgh) Smith. Harry was the brother to David (Betty) Smith, Alice Gault, Bessie (Dayton) Getman and Naomi Abare. In addition to his parents, Harry was predeceased by his two brothers Howard Smith, II and Billy Smith. He is survived by his beloved wife Shannon Brownell Smith who he married on April 23, 1994. They shared 24 years of marriage, creating many cherished memories and friendships. They shared a commom love of animals and shared their home with their beloved Tigger. Harry was a 1970 graduate from Oppenheim High School. He then went on to honorably serve his country in the U.S. Army. He worked for various local businesses over the years including BeechNut in Canajoharie. Harry was a member of the Scotch Bush United Methodist Church and later attended the Gloversville Free Methodist Church. Shannon and the family would like to thank the dedicated staff of the Mountain Valley Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Harry throughout his stay. There will be no calling hours or funeral services. A celebration of life service will be conducted at the Fort Plain Reformed Church at 165 Canal Street, Fort Plain, NY on Sunday, June 10th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in Harry’s memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, New York 12078. Arrangements have been entrusted to the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown. Cremation was at Vale Crematory, Schenectady.
