Obituary for Harold Dean Downing Harold Dean Downing, 84, passed away June 4, 2018. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am Friday, June 8 at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. He was married to the love of his life, Jane Methvin Downing, for 54 years until her death in 2012. Harold is survived by sisters Shirley Downing Harder of Chapel Hill, Ruby Downing Beckman and her husband, Don Beckman of Rockford, Il., daughters Cindy Downing of Charlotte, Susan Downing of Raleigh and sons Harold Dean Downing Jr and wife, Johnna of Godwin and Thad Downing and wife, Laura of Stedman, 10 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Harold was a lifetime resident of Fayetteville. He received both his undergraduate degree and Law degree from UNC – Chapel Hill and practiced law in Fayetteville for over 60 years. Harold was a charter member of Cape Fear Kiwanis Club and remained active in the organization for over 55 years. Harold was awarded The Order of the Long Leaf Pine for his service as a Charter Member of the club and was a 32nd degree Mason of The Scottish Rite.
