Obituary for Gordon Leroy Collins Gordon Leroy Collins, of Lafayette, IN, passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at The Springs, and same piece of property where he was born 90 years earlier at the former Home Hospital. Gordon was born February 4, 1928 in Lafayette, to Frank and Ecil (Props) Collins. He married Ilse Simon on July 5, 1947 in Attica, IN and she survives. He was a quality controller for Ross Gear for over 40 years before retiring September 13, 1986. Gordon was a member of the United States Navy during World War II. He was also a member of the Moose, Eagles (Golden), American Legion Post #11, A.A.R.P and a lifelong member of the VFW Post #1154 local #531. Along with his wife he is survived by his children; Charles J. Collins of Kissimmee, FL, Sara Jane (Christopher) Stohr of Urbana, IL, Judy (Dick) Lester of Lafayette, and 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and half-brother. Services will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Hippensteel Funeral Home at 2pm with celebrant Theresa Fischer officiating. There will be a one hour visitation prior to funeral service. Interment to follow at Spring Vale Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 11 and United States Navy. In lieu of usual remembrances contribution can be made to the American Cancer Society.
