Flake D. Thurman, 90, of Canyon, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018. Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, June 18, 2018 at Dreamland Cemetery. Military honors provided by Volleys for Veterans. Flake D. Thurman was born on November 26, 1927 in Plainview to T. M. and Trudie Bond Thurman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. He married Billie Jo Wallen in Canyon in 1946, and she preceded him in death in 1999. Flake farmed in Moore County during the 1960’s and loved working with his cattle. He also enjoyed antique engines, his tomato gardens, and getting in his truck and driving. Flake also wrote beautiful poetry. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Flake was also preceded in death by a son, David Trent Thurman on November 1, 2012, seven siblings, and two grandchildren, Autumn and Jodi Elizabeth Thurman. Survivors include a son, Kent Thurman and wife, Laura of Sugarland; six grandchildren, Jinay Read, Jason Thurman, Jeremy Thurman, Jenna Thurman, Jacob Thurman, and Lindsey Thurman; and eight great grandchildren.
