Obituary of Elizabeth Alice “Betty” Heitzman Elizabeth “Betty”, “B” Alice Heitzman, 91, entered into eternal life on Sunday, June 10, 2018. Born in Syracuse on August 14, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Ada Mae (Smingler) and George Poole Heitzman. Betty graduated from Syracuse Central High School and immediately went to work for New York Telephone Co., for 34 years, first as a clerk and then as an auditor She moved to Troy in 1955 and became lifelong friends with Elizabeth Dowd and Catherine McCarty. The three sisters-by-love shared a home and a life for more than 60 years. Her most treasured times were spent with them. Together they enjoyed many years at her summer camp on Oneida Lake. Betty liked to golf, bowl, go to the Saratoga Racino and racetrack and vacation in Cape Cod and Maine. She loved the Yankees and dogs, especially Ripley. She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church in Troy and then St. Augustine’s Church in Lansingburgh. She was a member of the Seton Health Auxiliary and the Telephone Pioneers as well as serving as a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Heitzman and is survived by several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at St. Augustine’s Church in Lansingburgh at 9:00 A.M. There are no public calling hours. Interment will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse. The family would like to thank the wonderful team of people, especially those on Unit A3 at the Van Rensselaer Manor for all of their kind and compassionate care given to Betty during her two year stay at the Manor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to be made to the Seton Health Auxiliary, 1300 Massachusetts Avenue, Troy, NY 12180, in memory of Elizabeth Heitzman.
