Obituary for Edith M. Bentley Edith M. Bentley, age 85 of Johnstown, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville. She was born on September 19, 1932 in Cherry Valley, a daughter of the late Mathias and Gladys Davis VanDerwerker. Edith worked for many years as a Cook for the former Johnstown Hotel and later the Shirley J. Luck Senior Center. She was a founding member of the Johnstown Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Mrs. Bentley was also a member of the Perth Senior Center. She is survived by her three sons Robert E. Bentley, Jr. and his wife Connie of Greenville, Michael Bentley and his wife Patricia of Gloversville and Brevoort Hayes and his wife Lois of Fonda; two grandchildren Ross Bentley and Robert Hayes, one brother Alvah VanDerwerker and his wife Millie, one sister Barbara Luft and her children Robert Luft and Denise Huskey, sister-in-law Barb Ceperly. In addition to her parents, Edith was predeceased by her husband of 47 years Robert E. Bentley, Sr. and whom passed on March 18, 2004, two brothers William Louis VanDerwerker and Edward VanDerwerker, one sister Gladys Eckler and Ken. A graveside service will be conducted at the Ephratah Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
