Obituary for Dr. Shen Ching Lee Dr Lee passed away on May 30, 2018 at home in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 85. He was born on July 2, 1932 in Penglai City, Shandong, China. During the civil war in China, after the Japanese invasion, the family moved to Taiwan. Shen, as a refugee student, followed his high school and arrived in Taiwan later where he reunited with his family and entered the National Taiwan University at Taipei, Taiwan. He received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1955. He came to the United States in 1956 for advanced studies. He received his Master of Science from Illinois Institute of Technology at Chicago in 1958; and his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1966. He was employed by Perfex Plastic Inc. in Chicago. After earning his Master of Science degree, he joined the Boeing Company in Renton, Washington doing research work from 1957-1966. In 1966, he joined the faculty of the University of Tennessee Space Institute doing research with Arnold Engineering Development Center (ADEC) and living in Tullahoma, Tennessee. In 1967, he joined the faculty of the University of Missouri-Rolla (now Missouri University of Science & Technology), Department of Mechanical Engineering and helped to add the Aerospace program. He presented and published many papers in the field of fluid dynamics and Aerospace Engineering. He retired in 2001 as Professor Emeritus and moved to Springfield, Missouri in 2010 to be closer to his son. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rolla, Missouri, for over forty years. He sang in the choir and served as a deacon, elder, and Sunday school teacher. He is currently a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Springfield, Missouri. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Agnes Yuwen Han Lee; his daughter, Dr. Helen Johnston and son-in-law, Jon Johnston; his son Dr. David Lee and daughter-in-law Dr. Carrie Lee, and five grandchildren : Kristopher Johnston and wife Stephanie, 2LT Eric Johnston, Erin Lee, Rachel Lee, and Nora Lee, and one great-grandson Allen Johnston- the son of Kristopher and Stephanie Johnston. He is also survived by three sisters: Shen Jing Chen, Shen Shiou Lee and Doris Ling, and many nephews and nieces. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him. Funeral Services for Dr. Shen Lee will be held at 12:00PM, Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Rolla Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary, Rolla, Missouri with Adam Bloch officiating. Interment will be held in the Ozark Hills Memorial Garden, Rolla, Missouri. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service from 11:00AM until service time at 12:00PM, also at the Rolla Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary.
