Dorothy Hollis Barker, 91, a resident of Indian River Colony Club in Viera, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 11. She is survived by her four children: Arthur F. Barker Jr., John Hollis Barker, Calli Barker Schmidt and Patrick Kilian Barker; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Lt. Col. Arthur Forbes Barker Sr., USAF Retired. Born in Baltimore, Md., in 1927, Dorothy was the fourth of five children. From an early age she enjoyed singing, and in high school formed a trio with her sister and brother. The siblings entertained audiences in churches and community halls near Lansdale, Pa., where her parents had bought and restored an old farmhouse. Dorothy met her husband, a WWII vet, at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa. They married in 1947, when Arthur was offered a regular commission in the newly formed U.S. Air Force. As an officer’s wife, Dorothy was active in many charitable and civic groups, and continued to enjoy singing in church choirs and at volunteer events. After her husband retired and the family moved to Pennsylvania, Dorothy began a successful, 20-year career in sales and as an event coordinator. The Barkers retired to IRCC in 2004, where Dorothy immediately became part of the community’s active social life. She was a member of singing groups, book clubs and bridge groups, and shared her excellent golf skills in two leagues. A luncheon reception in Dorothy’s honor will be held at noon Saturday, July 28, at IRCC’s Colony Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the IRCC Foundation.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Dorothy Hollis Barker April 2 1927 June 11 2018 (age 91). Beckman Williamson Funeral Home: Pickens Bill
