Dixie J Martens January 14 1937 June 24 2018

Obituary for Dixie J. Martens Dixie Jo Taylor Martens, of Shawnee, KS, passed peacefully on June 24, 2018, as a result of health complications. Dixie was born to the late Boyce Terry Taylor and Betty (Elizabeth Prentiss) Taylor on January 14, 1937. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, the love of her life, Larry Martens and nephew Mark A. Martens. Dixie worked for 53 years as a Radiologist Technologist, a professional career in which she was well respected and that she loved. She kept up with current events and rooted for the Jayhawks and Royals. Dixie happily shared memories of her many travel destinations with Dad and recalled all the phases of grand-parenting at the right ages. Between her and Dad, she was the disciplinarian with marshmallow insides. She loved bigger than her whole being and could easily turn into a protective mama bear for her loved ones. Even though Mom left us here, she left us with so much more. She taught us how to be parents, how to care for each other and was supportive at just the right moments with her pearls of advice. She is survived by her children Kim (Rick) Green, Doug Martens, Brad (Ana) Martens and Barry (Heather) Martens, and special niece Lynn Martens Hopson (Mike). Dixie was so proud of her 8 grandchildren, Lindsay (Brian), Scott (Melissa), Drew (Claire), Lauren, Breanna, Jared, Leah, Jenna, and great grandchildren, Kirby & Everett. She will be missed by many, including brother-in-law Bob Martens, dear friend Marilyn Shipley, and her best friends from high school whom she shared many memories throughout her life, Jackie Martens and Shirley DeGreave. With much love in our hearts, see you later mom. Give Dad a huge hug. Special thanks to Crossroads Hospice, especially Kim Willard, for her wonderful support and care. Visitation will be on Sunday July 1, from 3-5 PM, with a rosary starting at 5PM. A Memorial Mass will be held on Mon. July 2, at 10:30AM, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ Catholic Church. 5501 Monticello Rd, Shawnee, KS 66226. A private interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, Dixie requests donations be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital or Wayside Waifs. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Dixie J.
