David P. Holmes, age 71, of Platteville, WI, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family and precious dog, Jazzy. He was born September 29, 1946 the son of Frank “Johnny” and Helen (Bischoff) Holmes in Adams-Friendship, WI. David graduated from Lancaster High School in 1964. He attended UW-Stevens Point and graduated from UW-Platteville with a Civil Engineering degree. David married Gloria Stymiest on August 29, 1970. In addition to his wife, he leaves two… Read More » children as his legacy: Jennifer (Mike) Capesius and Brian (Jamie) Holmes. David also leaves five grandchildren to cherish his memory: Alex, Jalen, Lindsey, Sidney, and Brooklyn; and his new great-grandson, Jackson. David worked for Ayres & Associates in three separate offices and was director of public works for Platteville and Lancaster before starting his own company, Water Leak Locators, LLC in 1994 until his death. He also served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart. David was one of the most caring, loving, and generous people to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In keeping with David’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. Cremation will be followed with military honors at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. A celebration of honor of David’s life will be held at a later date. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home and Crematory in Platteville is entrusted with his services. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of UW-Hospital, Southwest Health Center, Home Instead and Grant County Hospice; especially Brenda Cullen, Kim Martens, Mareeta Kolman, and nurses Casey and Tracy for their excellent care.
