Obituary of Catherine Kletke Catherine Ann Kletke Shea, 55, of Shamong, New Jersey, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018, from pancreatic cancer. She died at home surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 11, 1962, at Tripler Army Medical Center in Oahu, Hawaii, Cathy was baptized at Messiah Lutheran Church in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. As part of a military family, Cathy grew up in various locations including Virginia Beach, VA, Guymon, OK, Duncanville, TX, Memphis, TN, New Orleans, LA, and Denver, CO. She graduated from Smoky Hill High School in Aurora, CO, in 1980, Hesston College in 1982, and Colorado State University in 1984 where she earned a degree in microbiology. Cathy spent a year with the Mennonite Volunteer Service in Richmond, VA, as a medical technician in a hospital lab. Afterwards, at Children’s Hospital in Oakland, CA, she worked in research and clinical studies. Cathy moved to Maryland in the early 1990’s to work for MedImmune, a biotech company; while there, she collaborated with a team to develop a treatment for RSV (Respiratory Synctial Virus). At that time, she also earned her master’s degree in analytical chemistry from John Hopkins University. She was most recently a self-employed contractor for Agilent Technologies. Cathy and James Shea, Jr. were married on August 12, 1999, and lived in Shamong, New Jersey. Cathy and Jim have two daughters, Kelly, 17, and Jamie, 16. Since 2000, her focus was on raising her family and caring for those in need. She loved traveling, reading, and spending time outdoors with family and friends. Cathy leaves behind her parents, Dale and Virginia Kletke of Aurora, CO, her brother Bruce Kletke (Monica) of Kansas City, KS, her sister Rachel Lyons (Mark) of Canon City, CO, her brother Rev. Daniel Kletke (Tricia) of Canon City, CO, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. Family and friends may visit on Saturday, June 23rd from 10am to 11am at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 1 Winchester Court, Tabernacle, NJ. A service will follow at 11am. A committal service will take place at the memorial garden at the conclusion of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to For Pete’s Sake, a cancer respite foundation or to the Seneca High School Art Program.
