Obituary for Betty Jo Garvey BETTY GARVEY GODFREY — Betty J. Garvey, 93, died at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at St Anthony’s in Alton, Illinois. Born Oct. 19, 1924, in McLeansboro, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late James and Anna Echols. She graduated from the Alton School System, and attended the former Shurtleff College and the Ursuline Business School. Her marriage to John J Garvey Sr. took place at the former St Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Crosson officiating on April 25, 1950. She was preceeded in death by her husband April 21, 1997. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Surviving are a son, John J. Garvey Jr. of Godfrey, Julie (Bob) Anderson of Conover, Wisconsin, and a very dear granddaughter, Sarah Anderson of Lisle, Illinois. Preceeding in death, as well as her parents and husband, were two sisters, Fronia Osborne and Ruth Cohen, three brothers, Ralph, Carles, and James. She leaves many nieces and nephews including Billie Killam and Ralpha Hausmann, who did so much in helping her. Visitation will be Friday, June 1, from 9-10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Mass to follow. Burial will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery after Mass.
