Arthur “Art” Delane Merriman Jr of Pendleton, Or passed away at his residence on June 26, 2018. He was born on July 8, 1948 in Pendleton to Virginia (Fouquette) and Arthur Delane Merriman Sr. He attended school in Pendleton and graduated in 1966. He was active in sports. He made the All Star Team in baseball. He went to state in wrestling. He was the student manager of the high school football team. He and his team mates were inducted into the Pendleton Football Hall of Fame in 2016. He was an avid sports fan and especially liked the Oregon Ducks. He graduated from University of Oregon in 1970. With his college deferment gone and his draft number of 13 he decided to enlist in the Army rather than be drafted. He became a Sargent upon completion of advanced supply school training. He was honorable discharged after spending most of his three year enlistment in Germany. He married Rose Murphey on September 15, 1990. They later divorced but remained good friends. He owned a construction company and later worked as a construction manager with Oregon Corrections Department, Oregon National Guard, and retired from construction, working with the Salem/Kaiser School District. He loved to hunt and always looked forward to hunting for deer and birds with his friends. He was a very good person, a good friend, and generous to people. Art is survived by his ex-wife Rosemarie Murphey; step daughter Jaclyn Sites; and cousin Dean Fouquette. He also leaves behind his best friends Larry Franke and Lee Moriarty. He was proceeded in death by his parents and brother Richard Merriman. A Memorial Service will take place Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 11:00 am at Burns Mortuary in Pendleton.
