Obituary for Alice Kendall Yoder Alice Kendall Yoder, 96 years young, died on June 14, 2018 following a brief illness. Alice was born March 1, 1922 in Githumu, Kenya, to Lillian Elder Kendall and Will Kendall. She grew up in Fresno, CA and attended Westervelt School in South Carolina. A graduate of Fresno State University, she married Paul E. Yoder in 1945. Living on Oahu since 1961, Alice worked for many years as ‘The Simplicity Lady,’ presenting Simplicity pattern fashion shows with High School Home Economic classes throughout the Islands. While earning her M.A. (1978) she taught at U.H. School of Fashion Design and Merchandising until her retirement. Following Paul’s death in 2003 she traveled many times to Githumu, raising money for a well, a commercial generator, computer network, surgical lighting, and many other needed improvements for the local hospital. She made her last trip to Kenya at age 94. A faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, Alice was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu at Koolau up until her death. Alice is survived by children Dianne Yoder of Walnut Creek, CA; Marilyn Yoder Creel (Steve) of Visalia, CA; Jan Yoder (Gary Jewell) of Spokane, WA; Paul Yoder (Joanna) of Lake Forest Park, WA; grandchildren Colin (Abby) Anderson, Keala (Sean) Stephan, Maile (Ben) Sand, Evelyn Sand, Ria (Aaron) Allen, Elsa Jewell, Will Yoder, Kendall Yoder, 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held on July 7 at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Koolau, with visitation at 8:30; reception following.
