Dr. Alan L. “Lanny” Gartenberg 78, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018. Lanny was born May 25, 1940, in Plainfield, NJ, and was the son of the late Samuel and Fay Gartenberg of Plainfield, NJ. He was a graduate of Lafayette College and continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine where he graduated with the Class of 1965. Lanny was an honorably discharged veteran who served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967 and attained the rank of Captain. While in the service, he was a practicing Dentist at Fort Hood who treated soldiers prior to their deployment during the Vietnam War. Lanny managed his own dental practice for 34 years in Brick, NJ, and for many years, he volunteered as a dentist at the night clinic of the Paul Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood for those in need. He was extremely proud and passionate about his family and loved spending time with them. His favorite activities included reading, playing tennis, swimming, travelling and following the financial trends in the stock market. Lanny was loved by everyone who knew him and will be dearly missed by both family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Lucille; his children, Steven Gartenberg and his wife, Nancy and his daughter, Jill Jaclin and her husband, Gregg, all of West Windsor; and his four grandchildren Samuel, Emma, Rachel and Ben. Funeral services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Lanny’s memory to the Jewish Family & Children’s Service, 707 Alexander Road, Suite 102, Princeton, NJ 08540. Arrangements are under the direction of the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ.
