Obituary of Selma Behnke Selma Behnke, 99, of Buffalo Lake, MN, and formerly of Marshfield, WI, and Fairmont, MN, died Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Hutchinson Health Hospital, just one month short of her 100th birthday. Visitation for Selma is Friday, April 20th at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon with Rev. Mark Krueger and Rev. Jackie Cook officiating. Burial is Friday at 4:15 p.m. at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery in Fairmont. Rev. Anthony Bertram of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairmont will officiate the committal service. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to FREE at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center or the American Heart Association. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia. Selma Anna Behnke was born May 13, 1918 in Whittemore, IA, to William and Alvina (Bell) Meyer. She was baptized June 2, 1918 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Whittemore. Selma grew up at Whittemore and attended parochial school. She was confirmed March 19, 1932 by Pastor William Faulstick. Selma worked on the family farm until marrying Herman Behnke on December 7, 1938. The couple was blessed with three daughters and they made their home in Whittemore until moving to Fairmont, MN, in 1959. Selma was employed at a department store for over 20 years and also volunteered at a craft shop for several years. Her faith was very important to her and she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was active in the Ladies Aid in both Iowa and Minnesota. Herman died in 1974 and in 1986 she moved to Marshfield, WI, to reside near her oldest daughter. In 2015 she became a resident of Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center. Selma had enjoyed sewing, knitting and also feeding and watching birds. Selma is survived by two daughters: Mary (and Tom) Cairy of Longmont, CO, and Susan (and Bob) Richards of Buffalo Lake; son-in-law John Parker of Chippewa Falls, WI; eight grandchildren: Steven (and Karen) Parker, Brian Parker, Amy (and David) Fiebelkorn, Michelle (and Raul) Cairy-Garcia, Christopher (and Crystal) Cairy, Adam (and Angie) Richards, Angela (and Aaron) Tatone, and Aaron (and Paige) Richards; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Herman; daughter Marjorie Parker; 11 siblings; and one great-grandson. Blessed Be Her Memory
