Rosalie Ann Sorensen was born to James and Bessie Sorensen on March 3, 1936, in Baytown, Texas. She was raised an only child and attended a small Seventh-day Adventist elementary school in Baytown. She graduated from high school in Keene, Texas. In 1955 she married Benny Hanzelka in Houston, Texas and together they had two children, Susan and Craig.
