Dale Dean Korslund, 86, of Viborg passed away on November 18, 2023 at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg. Dale was born November 17, 1937 to Arthur and Grace (Hanson) Korslund. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Spring Valley Church, Viborg, SD and attended Salem District 83 School.
Visitation will be from 5-7pm Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at the Hansen Funeral Home in Irene. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene, with Pastor Mark Ostrem officiating. Burial will follow in Meldal Cemetery rural Irene.
When Dale was 13, his dad passed away and he & his brother, Art, took over farming until Art enlisted in the Navy.
Sept. 4, 1959, he married his love Alma Marie Hansen at Meldal Lutheran Church rural Irene, SD. They lived & farmed Dale’s homeplace 2 west and 1 ½ north of Spring Valley Church. Then moved & farmed ¾ north of Spring Valley Church.
In 1963, they moved to a farm 3 miles northwest of Irene and in 1967 moved to and bought Alma’s homeplace 3 miles south of Centerpoint Store. 2013 they moved to a new home they put up in Viborg.
To this union 3 children were born: Dean, Dennis, and Kathy.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Irene and DBS member in Viborg.
Dale farmed and raised livestock until 1995 then rented out his land after losing his right hand in a farm accident and eventually selling the farm.
2002 Dale was employed in Yankton & worked at the street dept and 2003 worked at Mount Marty doing lawn care, etc. and 2006 retired.
Dale enjoyed dancing, listening to polka music (especially Mollie B), boating, playing fast track and going to Texas for winter, but most of all enjoyed his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Those who shared his life & cherish his memory are his wife, Alma of Viborg, Dennis of Watertown, SD and Kathy (Mike) King of Irene. Eight grandchildren: David, James, Tracy, Lexy & Max, Lydia, Cameron & Chelsea, April & Tyler, and Mason & Maddi. Great grandchildren: Ashtin, Nikala, Mariah, Tateum, Dimitri, Zander, Emmett, and Elias. Janet & Wayne Jorgensen, Sandy Bak along with many nieces and nephews & a host of friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Vern Westall, son Dean, daughter-in-law Kelly, sisters Marlene Erickson, Marjorie Peterson, brother and sister-in-law Art & Edith Korslund, three nephews Chris Peterson, Wayne and Keith Korslund, two brothers in law Gorden Peterson and Roger Ernster.
