Friday September 22nd 2023
Mary Catherine “Cathy” Favata passed away peacefully from this life on Friday, September 22, 2023, in the comfort of her own home at the age of 81. Born November 3, 1941, in Troy, NY to the late Clifford Sanhein and Dorothy Favreau Sanhein and raised by the late Grace Favreau, Cathy graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1959. She furthered her education at Mildred Elley School of Business and later moved to Watervliet where she resided until the time of her death.
Cathy was a valued employee of MetLife and Farm Family Life Insurance Company where she retired from in 2004 to spend time with her cherished grandchildren; the 15 joys of her life. She loved spending time with her family and looked forward to hosting Sunday Italian dinners. She also enjoyed reading, playing pinochle and working on puzzles that were always on her kitchen table. She was an avid bowler and bocce player and participated in leagues throughout the Capital Region. In her younger years, Cathy loved making ceramics, taking care of her family and being active in the Home School Association for Watervliet Catholic Schools. She will be remembered as the number 1 cheerleader throughout the years for all sports games, plays, dance recitals, concerts and graduations. Cathy also enjoyed spending time with her rescued fur babies (dogs) Rascal and Dixie. She has left us her lessons of love and strength and will forever live in our hearts.
Cathy was the loving wife of the late Paul T. Favata to whom she was married for 26 years at the time of his passing on September 11, 1987. She is survived by her children: Paul (Kyle) Todd-Favata, Julianne Plumadore, Thomas (Laura) Favata, James Favata (Sarah), and Ellen (Matthew) Barlow, her grandchildren: Olivia and Gemma Todd-Favata, Ryan, Timothy and Luke Plumadore, Thomas, Julia (Andrew Thomas), Dominick, Gabriella, Cameron, and Madison Favata, Michael, Samantha, Nicholas and Jake Barlow. Also surviving are many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins including those who were like sisters to her: Carole Zurlo and Mary Karl. The family is truly grateful for the care and support of the Watervliet First Responders.
