Eugene William (Gene) Schell, 79, of Owensboro passed away at the Heartford House on Friday, November 17, 2023 while surrounded by family. He was born on December 14, 1943 to the late Simon and Lucy (Wink) Schell. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, served four years in the Air Force, and retired after 32 years as a city letter carrier at the Owensboro Post Office. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, watching UK Basketball games and X-Finity Races on TV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Thomas; and brothers, Joe, Bob, and James Schell.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 53 years, Barbara (Hurm) Schell; two daughters, Paula House and Bonnie O’Bryan (Kenny); two sons, Allen (Dinky) Priar (Diane) and Mark Schell (Susan); 7 Grandchildren; 4 Great-Grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Phillips.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00a.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at St. Martin Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2023, with prayers at 6p.m., at James H. Davis Funeral Home and from 10:00am until the time of the service on Wednesday at St. Martin Church.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Heartford House, Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301.
