Betty Gene Moore Schanbaum was born into the family of Herman and Artie Lee Moore on April 6, 1945 in Phoenix AZ. She passed peacefully at her home in San Antonio, TX on Nov 29, 2023.
Formerly of Jonesboro and the surrounding area, she was a cherished wife, mom, maw-maw, sister and aunt.
She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Dean Schanbaum of the home, son, Kelly Wayne Ragsdale of Walker, LA, daughter, Nicole Leigh Ragsdale Parker of Soddy Daisy, TN. Also her grandchildren, Alissa Tapia of the home and Austin Haneline of Soddy Daisy, TN.
Siblings cherishing her memory are Olen D (Lavonne) Moore of Odessa, Mo, Curt (Lucy) Moore of Odessa, Mo. and Jeanette Moore of Jonesboro, many nieces, nephews, great and great-greats whom Betty was accredited as their favorite aunt.
Preceded in death were siblings Ralph Moore, Red Moore, Amos Moore and Ethel Goodson.
Betty was a Christian and of the Baptist Faith. She was renowned for her kind-heartedness, sweet spirit and commitment to family, community and her business.
On Oct, 1990. She married the love of her life, Dean Schanbaum from Dallas, TX. They were privileged to share in the spoiling of their grandchildren. Often they lived near the grands in San Diego, CA and San Antonio TX.
In 2005, as a master seamstress, she became the founder and owner of “That’s Sew Business” …designers and producers of stage softgoods. The name has been known throughout the U.S. for more than 35 years for theaters and churches.
Betty would eventually spend her final days in her dream home, near San Antonio with family and friends while watching deer play in her yard.
As family and friends grieve the loss of Betty, we invite those who knew her to come and celebrate her life and contributions. A visitation will be Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. and a celebration of her life will be 11 a.m. Nettleton Baptist Church, 7001 E. Johnson Avenue, Jonesboro, with Dr. Stan Ballard officiating.
Burial will follow in Macedonia Cemetery, Jonesboro.
