Wilma Jean (Fanis) Mutter, age 83, formerly of Abingdon, Va. passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at NHC in Johnson City, TN. She worked many years with Alpha Natural Resources and its predecessor Pittston Coal Company before retiring. Wilma was of the Baptist faith. Despite her 15-year battle with debilitating illness, she remained positive, friendly, sweet and welcoming. During her active years, Wilma kept active by walking, shopping, tending flowers and loving her family. She was very health conscious and was a great cook and loved collecting recipes. She was predeceased by her parents Nick and Gladys Puckett Fanis and grandson Brandon Allen White. Wilma is survived by her daughters Vicky White and husband Don, and Charlotte Kauffman and husband Matt, son Rob Mutter and wife Tara, grandchildren Tessa Smith, Krista Poe, Eric Kauffman, and Kevin Kauffman, great grandchildren Conner and Wyatt Poe, Zane and Avery Smith, siblings Dottie Sykes, Whitey Fanis and Johnny Fanis. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 21, 2022, at the Forest Hills location of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Va. 24210 with Pastor Cuba Porter officiating. The family would like to extend special thanks to the caregivers at Laurel Heights Nursing Home in London, KY for their great care and kindness. They would also like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff and caregivers at NHC Healthcare of Johnson City, TN for their loving care during her time with them.
