William’s Obituary William Stokes Hamilton, 79 of Fort Washington, Maryland. William Stokes Hamilton, age 79 of Fort Washington, Maryland died Sunday, February 27th at his home. Bill was born in Washington, DC and as the son of a Navy Warrant Officer he and his parents moved a number of times throughout his childhood. After high school he joined the Navy and upon discharge from the military he continued his education, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Maryland. He spent a great deal of his life with the Boy Scouts, starting as a Webelo, earned the rank of Eagle Scout and continued to work with The National Capitol Area Council for many years as an adult leader and advisor. During his working career, he was employed by the Library of Congress. He started when he was a teenager as an intern and retired in 2002. During that time he, like most men in the 1960’s, served his country by joining the military. His Navy years aboard ship were some of his fondest memories and his shipmates became lifelong friends. He was married in 1970 and he and his wife Mary spent much of their retired lives going on cruises and travelling. He loved once again being aboard ship, although the accommodations were a significant upgrade from his Navy years below deck. After having the privilege of becoming the first residents of Battersea On The Bay in 1988, he and Mary considered themselves truly fortunate to be able to add so many to that list of lifelong friends. Bill took on the position as President of the Homeowners Association for several years and enjoyed the opportunity to help build this great community. He is survived by his wife Mary, his sister-in-law Barbara Noakes, his niece Debbie Jellico, his nephew Scott Noakes and his wife Lorrie Noakes and his cousin Wilma Hamilton and a host of friends.
