Wayne was born in Holton, Kansas on August 8, 1943 to Raymond Segenhagen and Clara Boeckman Segenhagen. He graduated from Holton High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps until his honorable discharge. Wayne married Bonnie Frybarger on February 25, 1963, who preceded him in death. She gave birth to his son, Patrick. Wayne then married Anna Marie Wessel of Corning on May 1, 1965 in Buffalo, Missouri at St. William’s Catholic Church. The two spent the next 57 years building a family together in Wetmore, Kansas. He was a jack of all trades, as a mechanic, farmer, and carpenter. He worked for Henry Brothers for over 25 years, until his retirement. Toward the end of his career, he delivered tractors where he would take along his favorite copilot and wife for the overnight trips. Wayne was an active member of the Wetmore community and could regularly be seen wearing Wetmore Cardinal gear. He spent his early retirement driving the school bus for the Wetmore school district. Wayne was a member of Lions Club and Knights of Columbus, and an active parishioner of St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore. You could always find him either at an auction, or at the casino playing the slots or bingo. His favorite title was Grandpa. He spent all of his free time in his shop building anything and everything with his grandchildren. He never missed the opportunity to feed a baby ice cream. He loved each of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. But more than anything, he loved his wife. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Donald, Robert, and Ralph Segenhagen. He was survived by his sister Mary Alice Swisher of Emmett. Wayne leaves behind his wife, Anna Marie, and all 6 children, Patrick Segenhagen of Topeka, Henry Segenhagen (Loretta) of Pretty Prairie, Mary Hammes (Bob) of Hoyt, Sharon Lindteigen (Brian) of Tecumseh, Cindy Osterhaus (Dean) of Wetmore, and Cathy Astle (James) of Topeka. Wayne is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Josh Segenhagen, Heather Segenhagen, Whitney Forsythe (Nick), Tyler Osterhaus (Alissa), Morgan Geffre (Nathan), Amber Segenhagen, Lindsey Williams (Luke), Kyle Lindteigen, Emily Astle, Ethan Osterhaus, Makaila Astle, Reagan Osterhaus, and Connor Hammes, and 7 great-grandchildren with one on the way, Zoey, Lane, My’chael, Liam, Palmer, Elliott and Andrew.
