November 5 1937 December 17 2022
Walter Howard Jones Jr. was born on November 5, 1937 in South Amboy, NJ. A lifelong resident and outstanding citizen of Matawan, Walter was a loving husband to his wife of 60 years, Mary, a caring father to his children, Douglas and Kendra, and a wonderful grandfather to his grandchildren, TJ, Taylor, Caitlin, Zachary, Logan, and Brooke. Walter lived a life of civil service and was tremendously selfless, dedicating his time to his family, The Matawan Historical Society, The United Methodist Church, and serving as the Archivist for the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference. He was a proud active-duty Veteran of the United States Navy and served a career in the United States Postal Service. Walter was a man of passion and never put less than everything he had into what he did. Walter enjoyed bowling on Tuesday nights with friends. He spent countless hours at the bowling alley, baseball park, lacrosse and football fields watching his grandchildren play sports. You could always count on seeing him in the stands and he never missed a game. All who knew Walter know that there is much more to the man than could ever be put into words. In his presence, you would always find a sense of calmness and care. You could always find him with a smile from ear to ear, finding the positive in even the most trying of situations… and that smile was contagious! Walter was called home Saturday evening surrounded by his family. The man with the smile will be terribly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2022, 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Waitt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Morganville, NJ. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, 11:00 am at the Morganville United Methodist Church, Morganville, NJ. Burial to follow at Green Grove Cemetery in Keyport, NJ.
