Wallace Lewis Jr of Winchester died on December 10, 2022. He was born, November 15th, 1925, in Pearl Illinois, the son of Wallace Elsinore Lewis and Mabel June [Akers] Lewis He married Vista Mae Gourley in 1948, who survives. Also surviving are four children, Greggory Lewis [wife Connie] of Mayfield Kentucky, Adrian Lewis [partner Patti] of Orlando, Florida, Norman Lewis [wife Carla], and Larry Lewis [wife Pam] of Jacksonville Illinois. He is also survived by two sisters Virginia Mortland and Janet Bonnett. He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Mortland and grandchild Aaron Lewis. Wallace or “Bud” as he preferred to be called, graduated from Pearl Illinois school and joined the Army in 1943. He served in Germany as a Supply Sergeant at a Medic Depot. During a medical run to pick up supplies he happened across a Mercedes staff car that was laying on the side. He opened the door and crumpled up on the floor was General Patton. When asked ‘are you hurt?’ he shouted “Hell yes, get me a doctor. Yes sir, yes sir he replied. Towards the end of his time in Germany, he was sent as an observer at the Nuremberg Trials. After his military service, he worked at Lewis Motor Company in Pittsfield Illinois as a parts manager for the tractors, later moving to Winchester as a parts manager at Campbell Ford. While there he took a mail order course from DeVry Technical Institute of Chicago to repair television sets. He opened Lewis TV repair until retiring in 1991. He enjoyed hunting waterfowl with his father. They made many trips to Southern Illinois and always brought back a bounty of ducks and geese. A great Sunday dinner was had afterward. He also liked to hunt mushrooms and was also a Cub fan. Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday Dec. 15, 2022, at the Daws Family Funeral Home in Winchester Illinois with burial in Green Pond Cemetery, near Milton. A visitation will be held Thursday, 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
