Thomas G. Nixon “Tom”, of Carneys Point, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 2, 2022 at the age of 86. He was born on July 1, 1936 and was the son of the late Lester and Clara Nixon. Tom was a lifelong resident of Salem County and member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Penns Grove NJ. Tom retired from the DuPont company in 1992 after many years of loyal service. Over his tenure, he received numerous accolades for his dedication and contributions in process development at the Experimental Station in Wilmington, DE. Tom was an amateur pilot and loved taking family members up in the Cessna whenever he had the chance. Over the years he enjoyed home building projects, assisting with the church food and clothing closet, and country dancing. His favorite hobby was woodworking, and he was always proud to show completed items to friends and family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Lester, Kenny and Bobby as well as his sister, Dorothy. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, three sisters, Shirley (Dom) Piccolomini of Kill Devil Hills NC, Ruth (Glenn) Houseman of Portsmouth VA and Pat (Ron) Boyd of Chichester NH, three children, Glenn Nixon (Nancy) of Springfield, NJ, Doug (Janet) Nixon of Heathsville, VA, and Carol (Pete) Dion of Carneys Point. He has five grandchildren, Autumn Hayes, Apryl Nixon, Melinda Knox, Eric Dion, and Tom Nixon, as well as six great grandchildren, Lainey, Lucy, Aiden Josie, Maggie and Hazel. A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 15 at 11:00am at the New Hope United Methodist Church located at 174 South Broad St in Penns Grove, NJ,. Visitation will be beforehand from 10:00 AM till 11:00am at the New Hope United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Lawnside Cemetery in Woodstown NJ. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Tom’s memory to the New Hope United Methodist Church, PO Box 247, Penns Grove NJ 08069
