Shirley Stephenson of Salem, Missouri passed away peacefully on September 26, 2022, at the Seville Care Center in Salem, Missouri at the age of 84. Shirley was born in Mount Vernon, Illinois on August 1, 1938, to the late Earl and Pearl (loss) Winkler. Shirley was a farm girl, she enjoyed looking after the cattle, ad living off the land that the little farm had to offer. In the spring she set out her garden very carefully. With ten children to provide food for the winter, she planned her garden that she could can and put in the freezer as much garden produce as she could. She loved her family and enjoyed being a homemaker, mother, and soon came the grandchildren, which were the light of her eyes. She enjoyed cooking and getting her family together for a meal. On August 16, 1982, Shirley was united in marriage to Douglas Stephenson who survives her. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed by all that knew and loved her. Shirley is survived by her husband Douglas, of the home; children Terry Spraggins, of Salem, MO, Shirley Foster and husband Harold, of Bakersfield, CA, Robin Burrough and husband Leland Wesley, of Fresno, CA, Chris Spraggins, of CA, Rebecca Caufield and husband Ed, of FL, and Vicky Smith, of Stockton, CA; step children; Larry Stephenson, and Edward Stephenson, brothers, Bill Winkler, of Oklahoma City, OK, and Luther Dewayne Winkler, of IL; 16 grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to her parents Earl and Pearl Winkler she was preceded in death by her children, Debra Norman Mike Spraggins, Virginia Hieb, and Richard Spraggins; brothers, James Winkler, Marshall “Tee Tye” Winkler, Frank Winkler, Robert Winkler, and Chuck Winkler; sisters Katherine Winkler, Dorothy Winkler, and Agnes Harris. Graveside services for Shirley Stephenson will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at the North Lawn Cemetery at 11:00 AM with Pastor Steve Bramblett officiating.
