Gray July 16, 1929 – November 30, 2022 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Attended by her beloved daughter Patricia and granddaughter Alicia, Shirley Ruth Davis Gray died in her daughter’s home on November 29, 2022. Her passing followed that of her husband Joseph Ramsey Gray in late April. Mr. and Mrs. Gray were married more than seventy years. The fourth of five children born to George Emerson Davis, Sr. (1897-1961) and Grace Marie O’Neil Davis (1898-1962), Shirley was born on the family’s farm in Wolf Creek Township on July 16, 1929, a few months before the onset of the Great Depression. She was preceded in death by her brother—George Emerson Davis, Jr. (1920-1997), her sister—Mary Louise Davis Whiston (1921-1997), her sister—Eleanor Davis (1924-1993), and most recently her sister—Alyce Mae Davis Hall (1932-2020). Shirley was a graduate of Stoneboro High School and enjoyed staying in touch with her classmates through the years. She and her husband established Grays’ Nursery which served Mercer County for sixty years. The nursery was a natural segue from her early life on the farm which she carried in her heart all of her days. She was a lifelong member of the Christian Science Church headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. She is mourned by four children, six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren including her daughter Jacqueline Gray of St. Louis, Missouri, the mother of James Benton Lackey III who lives in Tacoma, Washington with his wife Apple and Dr. Joanna Lackey who lives in Nyack, New York with her husband Dr. Erich Werner and their daughters Carlie and Eleanor; her son David Gray who lives in Grove City with his wife Claudia; her daughter Pamela Gray Killion who lives in Colorado Springs with her husband Jerry, parents of Emerson who lives in Thornton, Colorado with his wife Chloe and Joseph who lives in Huntington Beach, California; and her daughter Patricia Gray, the mother of Alicia McGill who lives in Erie with her husband Kenneth Bluska and their children Rivers and Harlow and Caleb McGill who lives in Grove City with his wife Rebecca and their daughters Laken and Cali. A private memorial is being planned for a later date. As Shirley was passionate about caring for animals in need, please consider donating to the Grove City Area Pet Rescue in lieu of flowers.
