Obituary April 19, 1944 – November 10, 2022 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Shirley Jean Lee Hobbs, of New Hope, announces her passing after a seven-month battle with dementia that was accelerated by several strokes, on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at the age of 78 years. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Shirley was born April 19, 1944, one of five children to Floyd “Edd” and Mamie Pauline Lee. She had three children by her first marriage and worked as a homemaker for the early part of their lives. She drove a school bus for Owens Cross Road School for many years. When her children were older, she started to work at Parker Hannifin, where she met her second husband, Ronnie Wayne Hobbs; they were married September 11, 1991, and have been happily married for 31 years. She started to work at Boone Mart gas station in New Hope as the assistant manager and later became the manager. She enjoyed interacting with all the people and took pride in her job. After she retired, she became a caregiver for those that need in home care. She loved doing this work getting very close to the people she sat with; however it was very hard for her when they would pass away. Shirley loved getting up early every morning and cleaning her house which was instilled in her by her grandmother who raised her after her mother’s passing. After cleaning house, it was GO time, from shopping at Belk, which she could do for hours; to estate sales; to eating out with her friends and family; to picking veggies from her garden during the summers; to spending quality time with her family. If anyone mentioned vacation, she was ready and just wanted to know when we were leaving. She loved sitting on her front porch, looking at the flowers in her yard, and riding the golf cart around the neighborhood offering fresh picked cucumbers from her garden to the neighbors. But more than anything, Shirley loved the Lord and was a faithful servant and member of Hampton Cove Church of Christ. She instilled that love of the Lord to her children for which they are very grateful. She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Edward “Edd” Lee, Sr.; mother, Mamie Pauline Wells Lee; sisters, Faye (Marvin) Carlisle and Linda (Gary) McDaniel; brother, Junior Lee; step sisters, Peggy Wells and Marcella Harris; and step brothers, Gene McGaha and Jim McGaha. Surviving are her husband of thirty one years, Ronnie Wayne Hobbs; daughter, Gayla (Tim) Pelcic; son, Tim (Paula) Hendrix; daughter, Jennifer (Brad) Spivey; grandchildren, Jessie (Kyle) Officer, Connor Pelcic, Ashley (Matt) Mobley, Alex (Audrey) Hendrix, Marissa (Brent) Thornton, and Carson Spivey; great grandchildren, Kaleb, Mason, Karter, Kase, Hadley, Koen, and Nolan; sisters, Marie Wilbourn and Barbara Hall; sister-in-law, Edna Lee; step brother, David McGaha; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday 1:00 AM to 3:00 AM at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel, Saturday at 3:00 PM with Steve Parker and Keith Hodges officiating. Interment will be in the Moon Cemetery.
