Shirley Faye Wilkins Shoemaker, age 85, of Sweetwater, died peacefully at Sweetwater Hospital holding her daughter’s hand listening to “How Great Thou Art”. Shirley was a dedicated employee of Newman’s Food Center in Sweetwater for 30 years. She was also a member of Sweetwater First Assembly of God. Shirley loved listening to and singing Gospel music, spending quality time with her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking a good old-fashioned meal. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Richard C. and Ella Pearl Harrell Wilkins; son, Danny Shoemaker; brothers, Linton Ray Wilkins, Bill Wilkins, Charles Wilkins, Raymond Wilson, and Clifford Wilson; sisters, Mildred Moore, Zelma Lonas, Ruby Galyon, June Bledsoe, Mattie Holbrook, and Lena Thomas McJunkins. She is survived by her husband, Merle Everett Shoemaker of Sweetwater; daughter and son-in-law, Tammie Sheila and Douglas Wayne Rogers of Sweetwater; grandchildren, Wes Rowland, Dustin Rogers, Dexter Rogers, and 5 great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are brothers; Mack Wilson, Mickey Wilson, many nieces and nephews; special close friends, Marylee, Joan, Elja, Theresa, Jerry and Lee. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Kyker Funeral Homes, Sweetwater from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 P.M. in Kyker’s Chapel with Dr. Andrew Templeton officiating.
