Tuesday December 13th 2022
Sheri Pantell, age 58, of Mt. Prospect, incredibly devoted wife of Frank; endlessly giving mother of Katie (Cas), Angela (Tony), and the late Dominic. She was the ever watchful and (possibly obsessively) devoted human of her soul mate Paulie (for those of you who don’t know, Paulie is her dog). She was the very caring daughter of the late Herbert and Annie and the “Spirited Little Thing” of a daughter-in-law to “Toto” Toni Pantelleria. Sheri was preceded in death by her sisters Pam and Debbie and survived by her sister and friend Lynn. Sheri was a loving aunt to Shaun, Lisa, Brian (Amy), Michael (Carrie), Gina, Kylee, Devin and Colin. Beyond that, Sheri was an adopted mother to more special young people than we have the room to list. Memorial/gathering Thursday, December 22nd 3-9pm (open house) at Dasom/South Church, 501 S. Emerson St. in Mt. Prospect (corner of Emerson St. & Shabonee Trl., parking lot on Shabonee). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a travel and lodging fund for patients at Johns Hopkins Hospital and their families (details to follow). ––––––––––––––––––––––––– We have heard so many wonderful stories about Sheri in the days since she passed and so many of them have centered on her ability to make people feel welcome and loved in her home. She was famous for her incredible meals, but what stood out to everyone was her genuine eagerness to make people feel at home and comfortable. Many of you reading this will have experienced this personally at large holiday gatherings, family events, friends events and on and on. Some of you reading this will have experienced this at an even deeper level and called her mom. We started listing out the number of young people that think of her as a second mom and we quickly lost count. I can tell you personally from talking to many of you that I can appreciate a true sense of grief of losing a mother. Katie and Angela are clearly not alone in their grief. We have heard from everyone, from the letter carrier for the next route over to the surgeon who completed that very complex surgery she went through this past September, that she had a really big impact on them. We are all used to hearing polite positive comments, but the breadth and depth of the really emotional responses has been truly overwhelming. We have heard repeatedly how she made so many people feel loved and cared for. With that in mind, we are hosting her celebration of life in the Fellowship Hall area of the Dasom/South Church. Sheri served meals to the homeless once a week for 15 years in this very space. While she was there, she showed her guests love and friendship and took a genuine interest in them. We feel that this venue is the perfect metaphor for Sheri’s entire life. Beyond her ability to welcome, care for and serve others we have also heard over and over about her energy and smile lighting up a room. As we talk about her life, we’re continually laughing about crazy and zany situations and stories she was a part of. She was really just a fun person for us all to be around. We realize that we were blessed. Sheri did all of this while being an extremely fun and involved mother and while working either full or part time. Her accounting and finance roles ran the gamut from financial responsibility for a billion dollar business unit to managing daily accounting transactions. She approached all of these roles with exactly the same level of high commitment and dedication. Just for fun, while she was handling her professional roles (and everything else above) she also handled all of the family’s accounting and financial management for various businesses and rental properties. Yes . . . she was busy 🙂 Yes . . . we really relied on her and could always count on her 🙂 Yes . . . we’ll be lost without her. But mostly, we’ll just be sad that she won’t continue to be a physical part of our daily lives. We know that’s true for so many of you, as well. We also know that we’ll always carry her memories, mannerisms, ideas, values, sense of caring, willingness to give, and openness to continually embrace and accept new people. We also know that this will be true for so many of you, as well. In that sense, she will truly be with us each day, as she will with so many of you. Thanks for touching her life and ours. If you were fortunate enough to have had your life touched by her, we hope that you’ll be able to hold that feeling in your heart and remember that you are loved. If you didn’t have that experience, it’s only because she hadn’t gotten around to you yet. She had a lot on her plate 😉 Thanks for all of the concern, caring and love that so many of you have shown our family. To say that we are overwhelmed by the love and support we’re receiving would be a dramatic understatement. Frank
