Obituary Robin “Bert” Thorne, 61 or 62 (we aren’t quite sure), of Dundalk, MD passed away after a difficult battle with bladder cancer on December 10, 2022. He spent his final week surrounded by his family around the clock Bert was born on February 25th, 1960 or 1961 (depending on who you ask) to Joan and Melvin Thorne in Baltimore, MD. As a child, he was severely burned and spent years in the hospital, much of it with little hope of recovery. But he endured. In the early 1980’s he began taking an interest in Josephine, the girl across the street. Despite the initial disapproval from her parents, their High School love continued to grow. In the midst of the 1983 Orioles World Series appearance a big Polish wedding was held, and a Potrzuski girl married one of the Thorne boys from across the street. Bert was a family man and considered his children, Aaron and Ashley, to be two of his greatest accomplishments. He was a hard worker, and he did everything he could to ensure his children had more opportunities than he did. For him, work didn’t end when he got home at the end of the day; he could always be found cleaning the yard or doing some project around the house. The home he built with Josephine was always full of love. Even in times of hardship, their doors (front and refrigerator!) were always open to their friends and family – a family which grew during their children’s teenage years to include many honorary children. The beach and ocean were his favorite places. He enjoyed taking annual trips to Ocean City to sit, watch the ocean, and drink a Budweiser, especially when his family was able to tag along; he also enjoyed going on cruises. One of his greatest joys included being a part of his grandbaby Arena’s first trip to the beach in 2021 despite being midway through a round of chemo. Anyone who knew Bert knew he was full of kindness and love, always putting others before himself. Even at the very end, he would ask how others were before they had the opportunity to ask him how he was. Bert was predeceased by his mother, Joan, and his father Melvin. He is survived by his wife Josephine; his son Aaron and Aaron’s spouse Charles; and his daughter Ashley, her spouse Matthew, and their child Arena. He is also survived by his seven siblings Kathy, Roxanne, Tammy, Mark, Michael, Christopher, and Melvin. The family will host a funeral service at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home of Dundalk. They request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Bladder Cancer Advisory Network (BCANN) and to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The family will receive friends at the family owned Duda-Ruck Funeral Home of Dundalk Inc. 7922 Wise Avenue on Thursday (12/15/2022) from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm, where a funeral service will be held also on Thursday at 7pm. Service followed by cremation.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Robin Lee Thorne December 10 2022.
