Richard A. Bowling, age 79, of Bluff City, TN passed away Friday, December 9, 2022 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born in Elizabethton to the late Arie Kilby and Ive Lee Bowling Loudy. Richard was a 1962 graduate of Elizabethton High School and a United States Army Veteran having served in the Gulf War as a family advocate. He formerly worked for the Carter County Sherriff’s department, Raytheon Technologies, Sperry Univac, Beaunit Fibers. He later retired from James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was the former Mayor of Bluff City, a member of Bluff City Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the National Guard #776 for 27 years. Richard was also a member of Bluff City Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Chairman of the Deacons. He was very involved in various committees and was a Sunday School Teacher. He loved his church and his church family very much. He was also a former member of First Free Will Baptist Church, of Elizabethton for many years where he also served as Deacon. Richard enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren and his dog, Mandy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his bonus father, Jack Loudy. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Susann Bowers Bowling, of the home; son, Richard Allen Bowling, Jr. (Nicole), of OH; four grandchildren, Cody Bowling (Krista), Cory Bowling, Taylor Bowling and Easton Bowling; eleven great-grandchildren, Jerimiah, Aubrey, Ava, Ainsley, Ryan, Jason, Mason, Addison, Piper, Camryn and Trinity; brother, Jerry Bowling (Sherry), of Elizabethton; three sisters, Teresia Hensley (Keith), of Johnson City, Debby Bradford (Charlie), of Elizabethton and Lisa Bryson (Steve), of Knoxville; special friends, Pastor Mike Carrier and Chase Carrier and several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will hold a service to celebrate the life of Richard A. Bowling at 7:00 PM on Thursday, December 15, 2022 in the Bluff City Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Carrier officiating. Music will be under the direction of the church. The family will receive friends between the hours of 5:00 PM and 6:45 PM prior to the service on Thursday. A private graveside service will be held in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. The family would like to give a special thank you to his Doctors, Nurses, hospital staff, church family and everyone else involved for all their loving care and support during this difficult time.
