Betty “Baby Rae” Myles entered this world on October 8, 1934 to Florence B. Hetherington and Eugene
Hetherington of Fountain, Alabama. Betty was a twin to Faye "Buddy" Hetherington and the youngest of eight
other siblings. God called her home on September 4, 2022.

Betty was known to those who loved her as “Ms. Betty” or “Betty Rae”. She spent her younger years in
Fountain, Alabama until the family moved to Pensacola, Florida. She later moved to Louisiana where she
raised her seven children. She moved back to Pensacola, Florida where she lived for approximately eight years, but eventually she settled in North Carolina. She was always a caregiver, she
worked in the homes of families where she cleaned, cooked, and cared for their children. She worked as
cook in a restaurant and was always caring for her family and community. She was a gifted seamstress
and used her skills to create beautiful patchwork quilts. As a great cook she was known for her sweet
potato pie, chicken and dumplings, and gumbo.

God was the head of her life, and she maintained a loving relationship with Him throughout her life. She
accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in the church where she was a deaconess for a time
and served as a member on the choir. She was quick to give and do for those in her family as well as the
church. In her later years, she would talk about the Lord all the time, pray and talk with Him.
Her memory lives on with her: seven children, Cheryl Manuel (Clarence Manuel) of Fayetteville, NC,
Charles Fountain (Deceased), Diane Fountain (Deceased), Wallace Brooks (Romesa Brooks) of Newnan,
Georgia, Jerome Brooks (Alicia Brooks) of Charlotte, NC, Troy Brooks (Deceased), and Timothy Brooks
(Theresa Brooks) of Guam, fourteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a
host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends and church family that will also cherish her memory and legacy.
