Obituary Odes Church, 92, of Lapeer, passed peacefully at his home, Sunday, July 17, 2022. Odes was born in Steele, KY to the late Verna (Estep) and William McKinley Church. He married the love of his life, Judy Dotson on December 19, 1962. As a young man, Odes proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. While enlisted, he earned the rank of Sargent First Class, E5 Engineer. He loved this country and was always proud to fly it’s flag high at his home. After moving to Michigan, Odes worked for Federal Mogul Bower Roller Bearing for 19 years before beginning employment at Ford. He worked for Ford for 19 more years and eventually retired in 1991 (with perfect attendance). When he retired, Odes and Judy moved to Davenport, FL where he ran a lawn service for the neighborhood they lived in. They enjoyed 11 years of the Florida sunshine before moving back to Michigan. Odes had a green thumb, he loved his beautiful lawn and garden where he grew all kinds of vegetables. He loved playing cards, doing word searches, puzzles, watching old westerns and especially watching his beloved Detroit Tigers every chance he got. Above all, Odes was most proud of his family. His wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were all where he found the most joy in life. Odes is survived by his wife of 59 years Judy Church of Lapeer; children: Michael (Cheryl) Church of Tucson, AZ, Pamela Denise of Warren, Kim (Jim) Harkness of Laingsburg, MI, Krista (Dave) Hansen of Hermitage, TN and Katina (Darrin) Pollet of Tecumseh, MI; grandchildren: Ryan (Michele), Ashley (Justin), Brandon (Hannah), Daniel, Kendall, Katelyn, Evan, Tyler (Danielle) Haley, Amanda, John Jr., Steven and Bradley; 10 great-grandchildren and siblings: Loretta Johnson of Grundy, VA and Hassel (Janice) Church of Port Orange, FL. He was preceded in death by 6 sisters and 2 brothers along with his aforementioned parents. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at Lapeer Church of Christ in Lapeer. Bob Norton will officiate the service.
