Nona T. Nassif, 95 of Norcross, Georgia, formerly of Richlands, Virginia, passed away on December 24th. Born Nona France Thomas on February 25, 1927, in Freeman, West Virginia to the late John Reed Thomas and Gladys Leola Compton. She was a 1945 graduate of Bramwell High School and attended Concord College where she pursued a career as an educator and began teaching in 1947 on Estep Ridge in Bradshaw, West Virginia. For the next 13 years, Nona taught various grades from first through seventh in the Tazewell County school system as well as two years at Copeland Park in the Hampton, Virginia school system. She met her husband, Bob while teaching in The Cove and they married in 1950. For 60 years she made her home in Richlands where she was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, was active in the early planning of the Richlands Recreation Center, a member of the Richlands Garden Club where she was past president and life member, and CART. Nona was an avid gardener, enjoyed painting, loved tennis for as long as she could play and played bridge when she could, and was never without a book in her hand. In 2015 she and Bob moved to Alpharetta, Georgia. They became members of the parish of St. Brigid Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gladys Thomas, brother John Thomas, sister, Shirley Epperson, and her husband of 70 years, Bahjet “Bob” Nassif. She is survived, by her beloved son, Gregory and husband, Jeffrey Sowder of Norcross, Georgia; nephews and nieces: John Epperson and wife Annie of Senecaville, Ohio, Carrie Koval of Senecaville, Ohio, Bill Epperson of Byesville, Ohio, Jennifer Sills and husband Rob of Byesville, Ohio, Melissa Julian and husband Kevin of Amanda, Ohio, Dr. Stuart Epperson and wife Candace of Newark, Ohio, Richard Zambacca and his wife, Lisa of Atlanta, Georgia, Robert Zambacca of Roanoke, Virginia and Diane Grant and her husband, Dr. Michael Sergeant of Tucson, Arizona, in addition to great and great-great nieces and nephews.
