Maynard D. (“Skip”) Church II, 83, of York passed away on July 20, 2022. Skip was born in Wellsville, NY to John Maynard Church and Lila Church (nee Gagen) in 1939. Skip loved people and was always quick with a joke and a smile whether you knew him for years or had just met him. As a boy, Skip loved the outdoors and carried this passion throughout his life, enjoying countless hunting and fishing adventures with his friends. After graduating from Wellsville High School, Skip joined the United States Marine Corps where he served honorably including a tour in Okinawa, Japan. After he returned from active duty, Skip met the love of his life, Bonnie, with whom he recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. He graduated from Paul Smith’s College as a proud “Piner” and stayed in touch with many of his classmates over the years. After moving to York in the 1970s, Skip worked for more than two decades at Glatfelter Paper Company in Spring Grove until his retirement. He was a long-time member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and always eager to lend his time and talents to help others. Skip is survived by his loving wife Bonnie (nee Butner), his son John M. Church of Concord, NC and wife Jennifer (nee Ryon), and his daughter Heidi L. Underwood of Perkasie, PA and husband Todd. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Church of Everman, TX and his sister, Annabelle Osgood of Olympia, WA. Skip is additionally survived by his three grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Alexandra Church of Seneca, SC, Chandler Church of Concord, NC, and Samuel Underwood of Perkasie, PA. Skip will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, York on Sunday, August 7, 2022 with visitation at 1:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Skip’s memory are appreciated to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, York, PA 17403.
