November 23 1929 November 30 2022
Obituary On Wednesday November 30, 2022, Mary R. Ebinger of Gaithersburg, Maryland passed away at age 93. Beloved wife of the late Rev. Dr. Warren R. Ebinger, and devoted mother, she leaves behind three children and their families; Lee (Akira), Lori (husband Greg, and Elizabeth), and Jonathan (wife Mary Louise, and Caroline & Katie). Born on November 23, 1929, Mary grew up in Reading, Pennsylvania, the youngest of four children of Rev. Michael Erwin Ritzman, Sr. and Daisy Mae (Shaffer) Ritzman. She journeyed to the mid-west state of Illinois to attend college for the first of what would be many adventures in a life full of travel and excitement. In 1951, Mary graduated from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, where she met her future husband Warren. They were married later that summer, and had 61 years together until his passing in 2013. Mary’s entire life was closely intertwined with the church, starting at home where Mary’s father and her husband were both ministers. Whether leading students as a camp counselor, playing the church organ, co-leading mission trips (Alaska, India among others), traveling on exchange pastorates (Wales, New Zealand), and leading United Methodist School of Ministries, Mary was continually in a role of service and stewardship. In addition to raising her three children with Warren, Mary also served others through words and deeds beyond the church. She was a 5th grade teacher for several years, worked as a pastoral counselor after receiving her M.S. (Loyola University, 1981), wrote books including I Was Sick & You Visited Me, and Do-It-Yourself Marriage Enrichment (with Warren), and fostered numerous pre-adoption babies. In retirement at Asbury Methodist Village, Mary enjoyed over 20 years of fellowship with old and new friends, and continued to lead various guilds (Wesley Seminary, Asbury) as well as resident organizations. As a pastor’s wife, moving was a regular part of life, and Mary leaves behind a lifetime of friends and loved ones across Illinois (Naperville, Springfield, Davis), Missouri (Kansas City), and Maryland (Rockville, Silver Spring, Frederick, Severna Park, and Gaithersburg). A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 1 PM on March 24th at Asbury Methodist Village in the Guild Memorial Chapel, 211 Russell Avenue, Gaithersburg, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Asbury Foundation at www.asbury.org/foundation/donate/asbury-methodist-village/. Read more
