Obituary PORT BARRE ~ Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 22, 2022 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Port Barre for Mary Lou Meche, age 79, the former Mary Lou LeJeune, who passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at The St. Joseph Carpenter House in Lafayette. Interment will be in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery. The Rev. Clint Trahan, pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Port Barre, will officiate at the services. Readers will be Haley LeBlanc, Andrea Cormier, and Connor Leger. Gift bearers will be Maci Leger and Skyla Doucet. Mrs. Meche was a native of Krotz Springs and a lifelong resident of Port Barre. She was a faithful Catholic and parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Mary was a talented cook and loved serving up homemade meals to her family and friends. She was also a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and will be dearly missed by her loved ones. Survivors include her husband of almost 60 years, Nelson Meche, Sr.; her sons, Pap LeBlanc and wife, Phyllis, of Port Barre and Nelson Meche, Jr. of Natchitoches; her daughters, Krystal Leger and husband, Joe, and Genevie Lamury and husband, John, all of Port Barre; brothers, Curtis LeJeune and wife, Linda, Louvy LeJeune, Glen LeJeune and wife, Margie, and Virgil LeJeune and wife, Kathy; her sisters, Neva Meche and husband, George, Edolia Spinner and husband, Freddie, Winnie Aguillard of Port Barre, and Gurseline Roger and husband, Buck; twelve grandchildren, Matthew LeBlanc (Summer), Haley LeBlanc (JC Carriere), Tyler LeBlanc, Skyla Doucet (Travis), Kalyn Cormier (Robin), Andrea Cormier (Chris Breaux), Colby Meche, Magan Meche, Maci Leger, Connor Leger, Hannah Nezat (Tony), and Chelsea Richard (Hayden); 20 great grandchildren; and her Godchildren, Gail Meche, Johnny Lamke, Theresa Guilbeau, and Jill Lastrapes. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alduse Lejeune and the former Marcelette Cormier; a brother, Norman LeJeune; and three sisters, Melda Lamke, Loretta Barron, Mazie Lavergne, Myrtle Lacombe, and Genevieve LeJeune. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday. Pallbearers will be Pap LeBlanc, Nelson Meche, Jr., Matthew LeBlanc, Tyler LeBlanc, Colby Meche and Joe Leger. Honorary pallbearers will be Connor Leger, Kalyn Cormier, Curtis LeJeune, Louvy LeJeune, Glen LeJeune, and Virgil LeJeune.
